The Story Thus Far.....

Five years.  Five years.  Five years since we decided to invade Iraq.  To eliminate the threat of weapons of mass destruction.  To bring down the tyrant, Saddam Hussein.  To free the people.  To help usher in a new government.  To fight terrorism.  Along the way, we lost people on all sides, including the innocent people we went in to save.  More than what we thought we would lose.  Five years.  Five years.  Five years later, and we are still in Iraq.  What is our motives of still being there?  What is going to happen when we elect our new President, Obama or McCain, into office?  Will the war in Iraq end?  What is next for the War on Terrorism?  When will our soldiers come back for good?  Thus begins my blog, Fighting the "Enemy".

Revan,

You seem to believe that the Iraq War was a mistake, yet you mention the War on Terror. Was the Iraq War a central battlefront in that war, as John McCain asserts? Secondly, do you think that the Iraq War served only as a distraction from the war in Afghanistan, as Barack Obama firmly states? Thanks.

Revan,
I agree with you that this war has been dragged out for too long at this point. Your repetition of "5 years" clearly indicates your frustration with Bush's administration and decision to go to war.
Personally, I think that it was a good idea to go to war against terrorism...however, with Iraq is a completely different story. You may want to look into the historical conflicts that have been in the Middle East for centuries. I believe that it is IMPOSSIBLE to set up a democracy in a country that is saturated with religious turmoil and has been for centuries. The Middle East has religious and territorial issues that they need to work out on their own, devoid of external help. I think that it is way too overreaching of Bush and the United State to attempt to impose a democratic government on the Middle East.
Your topic is very interesting!
